This solvent is soluble in water and holds hygroscopic properties, meaning it can attract hard water molecules. it has low toxicity and a characteristic odor.
Application
- Used in the food industry for food colorings and flavorings and is also classified as a humectant food additive.
- In the cosmetics industry, it is used as a solvent in mainly personal care products and as a moisturiser in make-up.
- Industrial grade MPG used as an antifreeze and aircraft wing and runway de-icer which is because its freezing point lowers upon mixing with water.
- It is also used in heat transfer liquids such as engine coolants.
